Hello. My name is Elizabeth Hardage (Bai Jia Ling), and I would like to welcome you to Hardage Chinese (HC). HC is a Chinese Language training school located in Washington, DC, and is co-owned by myself and Maggie (Lu Jia), another Chinese Language educator. HC was founded in order to close two gaps faced by potential learners of Chinese in the Washington, DC area. The first of these is the gap between the best practices in language education and language education as it is practiced in many instances in the United States. The second is the cultural gap between Chinese teachers and American students. HC has a track record of locating and recruiting talented, personable, and capable Chinese teachers who maintain a wonderful rapport with their students. Our classes are theoretically informed from a linguistic perspective, and, in the case of younger learners, from a developmental perspective as well. This means we teach fun, engaging classes that allow students to use Chinese in a meaningful way. It also means providing student-oriented classes designed around the standards articulated by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language. All HC classes use curriculum employing the Communicative Approach.
